空中建築
私たちが住む都市は宙に浮いています。
その昔、地上が砂漠化し住めなくなったため
空中に都市を造りました。
そこには地上があり地下があり、橋・電柱・
電線・ビル・家などが建っています。
そのため昔住んでいた地上と変わらない生活を
送ることができています。
ふと、空から眺める砂漠の景色に寂しさを
感じることがあります。
もう故郷に戻れない悲しさ、住んでいた事実を
風化させたくない想いから、
そこで暮らしていたことを忘れないように
足跡を残すことにしました。
空中に住むことを選び、その場所を守り続けて
いくことが今の私たちにできることです。
空中建築-AerialArchitecture-
The city we live in floats upon the air.
Long ago, when the earth became no longer habitable for human beings,
we built a city that floats in the sky.
In this city, there are grounds and underground floors, bridges, telegraph poles, electric lines, buildings and houses.
Here, we can live a life that is no different from the life back on earth.
Yet, sometimes, the deserted view of the earth upon from the sky makes us feel a sense of sorrow.
With the sadness of being unable to go back to our own hometown, and with the willingness to prevent the past, back on earth, from fading away, we decided to leave footsteps to remember that we human beings used to live on the earth.
The one thing that we can do now,
Is to take the decision of living in the aerial city and protect the place that we live now.
〈はじめに〉
この物語は、人々が都合のよい生活を送るために自然を破壊し、地上が砂漠化したことにより始まります。自然破壊により人類の終末が訪れるはずが、技術の進歩により浮遊型空中都市「空中建築」を造ることに成功してしまいます。地上と変わらない生活を送れることに賞賛する者もいれば、不気味さを感じ自然からの報いを受けるべきだと考える者もいました。
その様子を見た一部の大人たちは「空中に住めることが唯一の希望ではあるが、自然を無視した生活はいつしか人間らしい生活を送ることが困難になる」と危惧します。今この場所でなんとか生かされていることを希望に、問題解決に向け活動を始めます。
この先、地上での生活を知らない子どもたちのためにも、事実を風化させず、人々の生活が何に守られ生かされてきたのかを今一度見つめ直す物語です。
空中建築は、物語を中心に展示場所を移動していきます。過去３箇所の会場での展示を経験し、環境に大きく左右する作品であることがわかりました。これは作品のテーマである「住」が関係しており、会社、店舗、住居、ギャラリー、公園、公共施設など「人が呼吸する場所」で展示することが重要だと考えました。
住む場所が変わることで考え方が変わるように、展示会場が変わることで作品の見え方が変わってきます。作品の外側の環境を整えることで、作品の中身が整っていくことは、物語の中にある「外側の環境を無視できない」ことが、展示会場とリンクします。場所を変えることで見え方が変わる様子を、これから進んでいく物語を通して観察していただけたらと思います。
〈Introduction〉
This story begins with the desertification of the earth, which was due to the destruction of nature by human beings for them to lead a convenient and better life. Although, the destruction of nature should have brought about the end of mankind, technological advances enabled human beings to create a floating aerial city; “空中(ku-chu-)建築(kenchiku) -Aerial Architecture-”. While some praised that the life upon the ground is no different from the life back on earth, others were skeptical and believed that human beings deserve punishment from the nature.
Some adults who saw this situation feared that “despite the fact that living in the aerial city is their only hope, someday, a life that is ignorant of the nature will make it difficult for human beings to live a human-like life.” With the only hope of being kept alive in this place now, they started to take action to solve the problem.
For the children who know nothing about the life back on the ground, this is a story about reconsidering what human life has been protected by, in order to prevent the truths from fading away.
Based on the story, “空中(ku-chu-)建築(kenchiku) -Aerial Architecture-” will constantly move to different exhibition venues. Having experienced 3 different venues so far, I realized that this work is very much influenced by the surrounding environment as the concept of this work relates to habitation. Therefore, there was further realization that it is important for the work itself to be exhibited in “a place where people breathe”, for example office buildings, stores, houses, galleries, parks, and public facilities.
Just like how we see things differently when we change the places to live, by constantly changing the exhibition venues, the work may be seen differently too. By changing the outer environment of the work, the contents of the work start to get organized and this links with the statement in the story that “the outer environment cannot be ignored”. Through the story that I will be going to tell, I hope you will observe how the changing exhibition venues influence the way the work will be seen differently.
